2024 Ministry of Clouds
McLaren Vale Grenache Carignan

Nourishing to the Soul…

We’ve long believed that blended wines are nourishing to the soul.

Life is rarely about singularity. Great meals, enduring friendships and memorable places are almost always shaped by the coming together of complementary parts..

Grenache and Carignan have shared that relationship for centuries throughout the Mediterranean. The generosity and perfume of Grenache find balance in the savoury structure and quiet tension of Carignan, producing wines of harmony rather than dominance.

It’s a partnership we’ve admired for many years, particularly in the great blended wines of Priorat and the south of France.

Planted side by side, Carignan at our south facing vineyard The Chase and bolstered by the 1950’s northerly planted bushvine Grenache block of our neighbour, the two varieties seem entirely at home together. Their shared resilience to warm, dry conditions makes them naturally suited to these lean and rocky sites atop the Onkaparinga Gorge.

Some partnerships simply make more sense together than apart.

  • "This is gorgeously lifted and perfumed, floral and finely red fruited, dusted with white pepper, fennel seed, celery salt and sun-warmed flowering woody herbs. Effortlessly mid-weight, this floats across the palate – it’s a house signature – though clearly with deep consideration to crafting food-grade tannins, which are a quiet but determined presence. Excellent."

  • "The wine is spicy and light, mid-palate-located and with refreshing mineral tannins.. It has really attractive rose petals and exotic spices and is light in body, intense in flavour and long in length.“
